The 2022 Gustafson Vineyard Riesling was fermented bone dry and is defined by its bright acid profile. On the nose, it offers aromatics of fresh Granny Smith apples, lemon curd, orange blossom, and that classic high-toned floral character that is so specific to Riesling.
The palate has a bright and energetic acidity with flavors of fresh grapefruit, lemon-lime, and apricot. Texturally, this wine shows a glossy, slick character resulting from the brief period of aging on lees.
Pairs well with spicy Thai or Indian cuisine and sharp cheeses. Serve cold but we find that the aromatics really start to jump out of the glass as the wine warms up just a bit (45-55F).

As with all of our wines, we keep the winemaking simple to let the vineyard express itself. We allowed the native yeast to conduct the slow, cool fermentation, which lasted about 13 days. The wine was aged in stainless steel drums on fermentation lees for 11 months and was gravity racked once just before bottling. No additives were used aside from a minimal amount of sulfur. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.
A small amount of sediment at the bottom of the bottle is normal and does not affect wine quality.

Gustafson Vineyard sits just above the fog belt at 1750 feet above sea level overlooking the southwest corner of Lake Sonoma. The steep, east-facing slopes provide high sun exposure during cool mornings and are more shaded during the heat of the afternoon, which encourages slower ripening and more time for flavor development as grapes accumulate sugar. The soil profile is a blend of Josephine gravelly loam (sedimentary/extrusive igneous rock) and Hugo sandy loam (a combination of weathered sandstone, shale, and schist). Both soil profiles provide a rocky, well draining top layer of soil that gradually transitions to clay as it gets deeper. This causes roots to chase water downward as surface soil dries out during the growing season, resulting in a very deep and efficient root system.
